About Me
My name is Brent Cartwright and I’ll be graduating in December of 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management. Its been a long journey, but also a very fulfilling one. I’m currently enlisted in the Ohio Air National Guard, this coming June will mark my 7th anniversary of my enlistment. Time has flown by, I've made friends and got to experience things that many will not be fortunate enough to and I am very grateful for that. Because of my time in the military I was forced to take a few hiatuses from school but I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything. I chose Sport Management because the sporting industry is a very fast paced industry. I enjoy the constant activity, the high tempo, the lack of monotony. It fits very well with some of the skills I've acquired throughout my life, that and it just makes it more fun in my opinion
I’ve been around baseball my entire life. From when I was playing as I was little, to playing in high school, to coaching at my former high school, to continuing to play competitively today. I would love to work for a professional sports team, namely the Cleveland Indians. However, I would not be picky if I could get in with another organization. I have a been fortunate enough to get the chance to work with the Cleveland Cavaliers and their sales department recently and can say without a doubt that working in professional sports is definitely where I want to work.
I feel that there are many positive qualities that I possess that makes me an ideal person for employment within the sports industry. Along with that, as with anybody, there are always means by which to improve oneself. Some of my strengths include:
Along with my strengths also come my weaknesses. I feel that everyone has weaknesses and that they don't necessarily make you a weak person but that they are there so that you know what areas to work harder to better yourself.
- My dedication, I am a very determined individual and know what my goals are.
- I am a leader. My military training is evident of that but my leadership has not been solely developed through those means, it is something that I have developed over the years.
- I am very passionate about my craft. I love sports, particularly baseball, but I've grown up around sports and have had the opportunity to work in different areas of the sports and recreation industry.
- I feel that I am very knowledgeable, however I am still very open to learning. I have a deep love for learning new things, I feel that it is essential for someone to always better themselves.
- Overall I am a very approachable person, I'm friendly and can talk to anyone.
Along with my strengths also come my weaknesses. I feel that everyone has weaknesses and that they don't necessarily make you a weak person but that they are there so that you know what areas to work harder to better yourself.
- I know that I can work harder to build my network. I know I am relatively young but I am determined to make the right connections so that I can move forward in sports.
- At times I believe that I try and take on too much and not delegate as much as I should. I like to make sure things are being done to my standards and have a hard time letting go of some projects at time.
- I know that I can be a little reserved at times. In an small industry where you need to make yourself known being more outgoing is essential.
